The number of people searching for properties in Turkey has substantially increased over the past year, a website reports.According to the overseas listings site PropertyIndex.com, online searches for Turkish property increased by 286 per cent between February 2008 and February 2009. The property magazine Jet-to-Let also voted Turkey as the tenth most popular destination for buying overseas property last month. Adam Samuel, a director at the overseas real estate resource Nubricks.com, says Turkish property currently performs better than nearby nations such as Bulgaria and Romania. He adds: "Probably the key to why Turkey is still of interest to people is because it hasn't joined the EU and the prices are extremely cheap compared to most other [places] on the market. "Latest figures from the World Tourist Organisation suggest Turkey was the ninth most visited country in the world in 2007.
